Hosting your WordPress Website

Congratulations! You either just had a website developed for you (hopefully by us) or you are in the process of getting one.

During the development phase and right before launch we might ask you where you will have your website hosted. Most of our clients used to have GoDaddy host their WordPress website, and guess what? We moved about 85% of them to a company called Flywheel. Why? Because GoDaddy had so many hacks, so many of our clients would call us panicked and say my website got hacked, etc.. and we would spend a lot of time troubleshooting, calling GoDaddy, trying to find lines of codes or files that shouldn’t be there, etc… We’ve had enough and had to find a better solution for our clients and also for us. We want to create cool and good websites, we don’t want to spend our time fixing websites that have been hacked!  You need reliable hosting that is fast, secure and safe.

So what and who is Flywheel and why do we think all our WordPress clients should host their site with them:

  • Managed WordPress Hosting: all they do is WordPress. Companies that specialize in WordPress are called “Managed WordPress Hosting” companies and they tune their servers specifically to WordPress and maximize the speed and security.
  • Their website hosting is fast.
  • They do your WordPress upgrades automatically.
  • They provide a nice backup service. Even if your current host does that too, have you actually set it up and then tried to restore? Flywheel makes it very easy to restore to a previous version and will always have your back(up).
  • They are very responsive, they know about WordPress and they talk to you human to human.
  • We can be added as collaborators on your site, so we can easily help if there is a problem, no more pin number or conference call with you and GoDaddy because we are not the main account holders!

The price: $14/month and it includes a free SSL Certificate!

Here is a link to Flywheel: here (if you are a current client please use this link so we can be linked to your account and help you setup).

What about emails, domain names, etc…?

As far as domain name goes, you can really go anywhere, Network Solutions or even GoDaddy can be used.
You can use any service for your emails although we recommend Gmail GSuite for $5/month: see here.

It can seem annoying to have different providers for each item, but trust me, it’s way secure if one of them is down at least the others have no reasons to be affected!

How to use Gmail for your 1and1 email

How to use gmail for your 1and1 email for free?

I have received so many thank you emails from people who used my tutorial to set up their Godaddy email on their Gmail account that I thought maybe some folks who are using 1and1 could also benefit from a similar tutorial! I know that 1and1 email platform is not better than GoDaddy, and we won’t blame them, it’s not their core business anyway.

So if you are using 1and1 for your emails, and want to be able to read and write your emails on Gmail instead, GOOD NEWS! You’ve come to the right place! You can set up your 1and1 email on your gmail account and use gmail for your 1and1 email to receive and reply by following a very quick and easy tutorial below.

Rebranding for Philly Living: Real Estate team

Philly Living came to Brand Revive wanting to have new signage designed. After brainstorming with their team we decided they needed a new branding to go along with any creative material we would produce.

Brand Revive did just what we were born to do: we revived their brand!

We designed a new logo for them, a new brand identity, new business cards, folders, thank you cards, etc.. and we wanted to create for them something different than the other real estate companies, we all agree it should be creative, innovative, out of the box and recognizable.

How to use Gmail for your Godaddy email

I would say 7 out of 10 of our clients pay too much for hosting when they first come to us. If their website does not require to host so many files (talking about thousands and thousands of files) videos, pictures, etc… there is no reason for them to pay more than $10/month for their hosting! So we usually direct them to Godaddy because we like their customer service, we like their price, and frankly speaking, our job is not hosting, so overcharge our clients for products they could get on their own is not our policy…! Beware of webdesign companies offering you to host your website – why would you? All they really do is make you pay more for what providers like Godaddy provides them.

Anyway, since a lot of our clients are set up on Godaddy now, we had to find a better way for them to check, read and

Brand Revive gets a Live Chat and customer support tool: HeyBubble!

A couple months ago I found this company through my Facebook connections and tried it out on our website. The results were instant: on the very first day, 3 potential clients used the live chat to ask about our services. We were able to transform those leads into projects and everybody at Brand Revive was so excited about this new live chat feature.

5 cool things about HeyBubble:

  • Price: it’s Free!
  • It’s super easy to install and customize
  • It adds so much value to your site goers’ experience

12 Mac shortcuts to make your life easier

Last week on the phone with 3 different clients, I found myself explaining to them how to take a screen shot of what they wanted to show me.
All 3 of them were amazed that they now could take a screen shot of anything on their Mac. Keyboard shortcuts on Mac Operating System are not only time savers, they are also just cool. There are many mac shortcuts, but we selected the most helpful ones, and created a cheat sheet you can print out and keep it handy. (Don’t worry Baby Boomers, Brand Revive classes are coming soon!)

DROPBOX : How to maximize the use of Dropbox

Here at Brand Revive, we use DropBox everyday. We share folders with clients,  with our team, clients share folders with us, they sometimes mistakenly delete folders, and sometimes we have to “let the computer breath” as our Creative Director says, because our graphic designers are uploading amazing –yet big – designs to our DropBox.
From our experience, it takes a second for some of our clients who never used DropBox before, to understand the concept.
As we exchange with many small businesses around here, it would be selfish not to explain the value of DropBox, and share some of the amazing extra things you can do with DropBox.
