Google’s Security Warning

Upgrading from HTTP to HTTPS

I’m guessing you’ve reached this page scrambling to make sure your website complies with Google’s soon-to-be changes on security. Your eyes bulged out when you read “Chrome (version 62) will show a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form”. Nothing is worse for a business than deterring potential customers because your website is down. What does this actually mean, though?

Your website is at risk if:

  • Have a contact form
  • Sell online

  • Collect private information

How to Build a WordPress Website in 10 Minutes

Whether you’re bored on a rainy afternoon, or the future of your company depends on you, making a website can seem like a large task. Yet, never fear, with these step-by-step instructions you’ll make a website in minutes! To prove to you this will, in fact, take you under 10 minutes I took the task of making my own website. Luckily for you, I documented the journey.

1. Use a site, such as godaddy.com, to register a domain and to begin your website. The domain is simply the address of your website. In order to create this, you will need to make a quick online account. Then select Web Hosting under the Hosting tab. Hosting, which comes hand-in-hand with the domain, is essential for your website because it reserves a spot to hold all the information on your site.

How to use gmail for your 1and1 email for free?

I have received so many thank you emails from people who used my tutorial to set up their Godaddy email on their Gmail account that I thought maybe some folks who are using 1and1 could also benefit from a similar tutorial! I know that 1and1 email platform is not better than GoDaddy, and we won’t blame them, it’s not their core business anyway.

So if you are using 1and1 for your emails, and want to be able to read and write your emails on Gmail instead, GOOD NEWS! You’ve come to the right place! You can set up your 1and1 email on your gmail account and use gmail for your 1and1 email to receive and reply by following a very quick and easy tutorial below.

I would say 7 out of 10 of our clients pay too much for hosting when they first come to us. If their website does not require to host so many files (talking about thousands and thousands of files) videos, pictures, etc… there is no reason for them to pay more than $10/month for their hosting! So we usually direct them to Godaddy because we like their customer service, we like their price, and frankly speaking, our job is not hosting, so overcharge our clients for products they could get on their own is not our policy…! Beware of webdesign companies offering you to host your website – why would you? All they really do is make you pay more for what providers like Godaddy provides them.

Anyway, since a lot of our clients are set up on Godaddy now, we had to find a better way for them to check, read and

Throwback Web Design – Boy the web was ugly

Web Design trends change very often and with modern technology we can do a lot more with a website than we could have 10 years ago. You don’t know where you’re going without knowing where you’ve been. Today we are highlighting the way the web was in its infancy. Below are some screen shots of some of the most popular sites when they were babies. Just like no person is happy with the way they looked in their adolescence, these sites sure are ugly.

Check out these hideous layouts and let us know what you think!

12 Mac shortcuts to make your life easier

Last week on the phone with 3 different clients, I found myself explaining to them how to take a screen shot of what they wanted to show me.
All 3 of them were amazed that they now could take a screen shot of anything on their Mac. Keyboard shortcuts on Mac Operating System are not only time savers, they are also just cool. There are many mac shortcuts, but we selected the most helpful ones, and created a cheat sheet you can print out and keep it handy. (Don’t worry Baby Boomers, Brand Revive classes are coming soon!)

DROPBOX : How to maximize the use of Dropbox

Here at Brand Revive, we use DropBox everyday. We share folders with clients,  with our team, clients share folders with us, they sometimes mistakenly delete folders, and sometimes we have to “let the computer breath” as our Creative Director says, because our graphic designers are uploading amazing –yet big – designs to our DropBox.
From our experience, it takes a second for some of our clients who never used DropBox before, to understand the concept.
As we exchange with many small businesses around here, it would be selfish not to explain the value of DropBox, and share some of the amazing extra things you can do with DropBox.
